Florida Gulf Coast University Emergent Technologies Institute

The 240-acre campus for the Research on Emergent Technologies is the fifth LEO A DALY project for Florida Gulf Coast University. The research park was developed by the University and partners in the business community and includes teaching and research laboratories, outdoor research and development fields, pilot-scale testing facilities, technology demonstration areas, power islanding and visitor parking.

The University and its business community partners are initially focusing the facility on environmental sustainability and renewable energy, with emphasis on:

• Weather stations
• Technologies that impact the use of solar and renewable energy in southwest Florida
• Technologies to improve farming applications for renewable energy developments
• Design and optimization of structures for combining renewable energy with electric transportation
• Energy storage
• Solar desalination of brackish water and anaerobic digestion of food wastes
• Development of shade-tolerant landscape plants to grow under solar panels
• Research into active media for use in greenhouses for temperature control
