Amy L. Schaap
A forward-thinking designer, Amy doubles as a collaborative project-team leader. Her logical and strategic approach helps clients understand current and future needs for their facilities. With 18 years of experience, Amy has earned the trust of our Federal clients, which include all branches of the military, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. She is conversant with all federal criteria and specifications for design and delivery. Her design leadership frequently leverages medical planning in 3-D and virtual reality. Full immersion into the design allows clients to experience spaces, fine-tune their functional/operational processes and perform in-depth reviews and coordination of equipment planning, which leads to a more refined design and enhanced construction phasing.
As our Market Sector Leader – Federal Programs, Amy leads design and programming discussions to help federal clients think through their operations. By establishing big-picture understanding, performing detailed analysis and developing strong relationships, she helps deliver projects that improve efficiencies and enhance medical facility environments. Her experience in master planning adds value to clients by achieving lasting and sustainable design solutions. Amy is a Fellow with the Health Facilities Institute (HFI) and an active member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
Amy brings specialized knowledge and experience in federal design-build, evidence-based design, antiterrorism force-protection standards and federal guiding principles for sustainability. Her projects have spanned the globe, from Japan and the Middle East to New York and Wyoming. She recently led renovation design and medical planning for 110,000 SF of the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. The project included 19 OR renovations in one of the U.S. Navy’s largest surgical hospitals.
