Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain Medical/Dental Clinic

Manama, Bahrain

This project replaces the Naval Branch Health Clinic which is the most forward deployed clinic of U.S. Naval Hospital, Sigonella, Italy. The existing clinic provides primary and select specialty care to military personnel, their families, and government employees assigned to the Naval Support Activity (NSA), Bahrain. The new clinic will provide outpatient primary care/family practice clinics, preventive medicine, behavioral health services, dental clinic, optometry, radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, logistics, information management, and medical and administrative support services.

LEO A DALY was tasked to provide concept design services (35%+) and to develop “Enhanced” Request for Proposal (RFP) technical documents for this two-story medical and dental clinic to replace the Branch Health Clinic which was outdated and too small to accommodate the growing healthcare needs of NSA, Bahrain. The project is designed to LEED Healthcare 2009 Silver Certified rating standard.

The proposed building site provided multiple challenges to the design team. The site is extremely restricted in size and shape. Multiple buildings on site required demolition. The adjacent Veterinarian facility and dog kennels were to remain but the existing dog training facility required relocation. There were many engineering issues on this old/ overcrowded installation with a failing infrastructure. The design team worked closely with the government to study all facility supporting utilities; identified mission critical issues and provided creative solutions to stay within scope and budget.
