David J. Thatcher VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic
The new David J. Thatcher VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic is thought to be the most important project in Montana of its time, expanding access to the region’s healthcare needs. The new 61,487 SF clinic will be 300% larger than the region’s prior clinic to expand high quality care services including home-based primary care, women’s health, sleep therapy, prosthetic services, physical therapy, radiology, pathology and laboratory services, and a variety of other exams and treatments.
The clinic utilizes the VA’s PACT-Model. Utilizing model prototypes for two primary care PACT teams, the cornerstone of design focused on patient-centered concepts staffed by high-functioning teams.
The exterior design of the building integrates metal panels, cast stone, brick and glass, which compliments the surrounding Missoula architecture and fits perfectly into the beautiful Montana landscape. The entryway features a canopy, which provides protection while dropping off during inclement weather.
The interior design blends with the exterior elements to create a positive experience for patients and visitors with an abundance of natural light and access to outside views. The aesthetic is inspired by nature and the outdoors, and art pieces include views of various national parks.
The wander/healing garden and extensive walking paths, when combined with the aesthetic of the clinic building, result in a physical, emotional and spiritual healing space for Missoula-area Veterans.
